Meet Mary & Steve

Mary S. Boghosian-Asofsky, MA, CCC-SLP/TSHH

Mary is the co-owner and clinical coordinator of South Shore Center for Speech, Language and Swallowing Disorders. She earned her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Hofstra University and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She is a New York State licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and holds permanent certification as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped.

Fluent in Armenian, Ms. Boghosian is known for building strong relationships with the families she serves and takes great pride in creating a warm, supportive environment for every patient. She is deeply passionate about helping children succeed and is committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of the families she works with.

With over 30 years of experience, Ms. Boghosian has worked with patients across the lifespan, from early childhood through adulthood. Her primary focus has been in the educational and early intervention setting, where she specializes in the evaluation and treatment of motor speech disorders, articulation disorders, phonological disorders and language and learning disabilities.

Leadership & Clinical Role
At South Shore Speech, Ms. Boghosian plays a key leadership role, supervising speech-language pathologists and maintaining high standards of clinical care. She is actively involved in both the evaluation and treatment of children from birth through 2.5 years of age as part of the Early Intervention Program.

Early Intervention & CPSE Involvement
Ms. Boghosian serves as an Advanced Ongoing Service Coordinator through the Suffolk County Early Intervention Program, guiding families through the evaluation and service process. She is also involved in transition evaluations and represents families during the CPSE (Committee on Preschool Special Education) process, helping to present findings and support the development of appropriate services for children ages 3–5. In addition, she participates in CPSE meetings to help establish therapy goals and service recommendations.

Mentorship & Training
Ms. Boghosian is deeply involved in mentoring and supervision, working with clinicians completing their Clinical Fellowship Year. She plays an active role in staff education, training and the development of clinical programs, policies and procedures.

Continuing Education & Professional Development
Ms. Boghosian is committed to ongoing professional development and regularly participates in seminars, workshops and educational programs to stay current with advancements in speech-language pathology. Her continuing education includes areas such as pediatric feeding and swallowing, sensory processing, literacy development, teletherapy and clinical ethics, as well as participation in professional learning through podcasts and other educational media.

Professional Memberships
She is an active member of the Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association, where she has served on the executive board and conference committee, as well as the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Recognition & Awards
Ms. Boghosian has been recognized for her dedication to the field with the Mimi Katzen Award, presented by the Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association in recognition of her commitment to individuals with speech, language and hearing impairments.

Steven M. Asofsky, MA, CCC-SLP/TSHH

Steven is the co-owner and managing partner of South Shore Center for Speech, Language and Swallowing Disorders, where he has led the practice since its founding in 1995. He earned his Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Hofstra University and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). He is a New York State licensed Speech-Language Pathologist and holds permanent certification as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped.

Outside of his clinical work, Mr. Asofsky enjoys fishing, scuba diving and spending time on the water. He values time with his family and is known for his practical, approachable style, bringing that same level of care and connection to the patients and families he works with every day.

With over 30 years of experience, Mr. Asofsky has worked with patients across the lifespan, from early childhood through geriatrics. His primary focus has been in the medical aspect of speech-language pathology, where he specializes in the evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders, voice disorders, motor speech disorders, speech disorders associated with cleft lip and palate and complex neurological conditions.

Clinical Expertise & Medical Focus

Mr. Asofsky has extensive experience treating patients across a wide range of settings, including hospitals, outpatient rehabilitation centers, nursing homes and home healthcare. He has developed specialized feeding and swallowing programs and is known for his results-driven approach to care.

Swallowing & Advanced Certifications

Mr. Asofsky has performed Modified Barium Swallow Studies in both hospital and private radiology settings. He is certified in VitalStim Therapy, an FDA-approved treatment for swallowing disorders, and was recognized in Advance for Speech-Language Pathologists & Audiologists for his work in dysphagia treatment.

He is also certified in FEESST (Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing with Sensory Testing) through Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. In addition, he is certified in LSVT LOUD, a specialized treatment program for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and related neurological conditions.

Early Intervention & CPSE Involvement

Mr. Asofsky is actively involved in the Early Intervention Program, evaluating and treating children from birth through 2.5 years of age. He also participates in the CPSE (Committee on Preschool Special Education) process, working with families and school districts to support children ages 3–5.

Leadership, Teaching & Mentorship

As managing partner, Mr. Asofsky oversees the clinical and operational direction of the practice. He is also an adjunct instructor at Hofstra University, where he teaches courses in Dysphagia, Motor Speech Disorders and Cleft Lip and Palate Speech Disorders. He mentors clinicians completing their Clinical Fellowship Year and supervises graduate students from universities across the country.

Professional Memberships & Leadership

Mr. Asofsky is an active member of the Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association, where he serves on the Executive Board as the Director of Legislative and Practice Issues. He has also held the position of Private Practice Councilor and has been actively involved with the conference committee.

He is also a member of the New York State Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, where he participates in specialized professional interest groups.

Mr. Asofsky has been recognized for his contributions to the field with the Mimi Katzen Award, presented by the Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association in recognition of his commitment to individuals with speech, language and hearing impairments.

In 2026, he was also honored by the Long Island Speech-Language-Hearing Association with the Outstanding Service Award. This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to the advancement of Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Communication Sciences through leadership, advocacy, teaching, mentorship, ongoing certification and active involvement in promoting professional development and the future of the field.
